On March 17-19th there was a delegation of the Italian Region of Veneto headed by the President of the regional public organization “Veneto Promozioni” Mr Giovanni Franco Masello with a business visit in the Minsk region.

The delegation included the businessmen interested in establishing of joint business with Belarusian companies, most of which have already had the experience of collaboration with some enterprises of the Minsk Region. They are, in particular, representatives of such companies as NEWBOX (Package production), ZAGO and MASKAR (Manufacture of agricultural machinery), Bamstil S.r.l (Furniture manufacture), Paolin Enzo S.r.l (Installations for food industry), Geoest S.r.l (Building, engineering, technical consultations), EUROTEAM (Agricultural equipment), and a counselor of the Region of Veneto Mr Denis Frison.

On March 18th the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Minsk Region Mr Boris Batura received the Italian businessmen and gave a detailed account of opportunities of the Minsk Region, of preferences and the most favorable conditions for doing business on the territory of the central Belarusian Region. From his part Mr Giovanni Franco Masello has informed that in the Veneto Region with a population of about 5 million people there are more than 500 000 companies, most of which represent small and medium-sized businesses. Thus, the Region produces goods for 200 billion of US dollars annually and its share in total Italian exports amounts to 15%. The organization “Veneto Promozioni” is encouraged to forge relationships of the numerous companies of the Region with other countries. During the meeting Mr Boris Batura and Italian businessmen discussed the projects for a possible cooperation.

Besides, the Delegation visited a number of successful Belarusian enterprises (including the Belarusian-Italian joint ventures) to get acquainted with the specific character of their work and to try to find new niches for cooperation. The guests visited the “Agro-Box Zootech” an affiliated company of the Joint Venture ”Unibox” Ltd, where they saw a dairy farm which is considered one of the most advanced and high-tech not only in Belarus but also in the CIS. The Italian Delegation also visited the town of Kopyl, where there is the JV “BetonBox” Ltd, the manufacturer of reinforced concrete constructions for agricultural building according to the Italian technology.

As the President of “Veneto Promozioni” has noted, Belarus and Italy are very much alike in the sense that they do not possess strategically important reserves of natural resources, therefore the stake in both countries should be placed on the development of modern technologies and their export.
