Instruments and equipment

The testing laboratory has modern instruments and equipment. Some of them are unique in Belarus. This allows our specialists to perform tests at the highest level and guarantee accuracy and reliability of the results. Here are a few examples.

Sample-collecting device for rough feed

For the analysis of rough feed it is necessary to periodically take samples on farms for further study.
Hand sample taking is a very labour-intensive and imperfect process. That is why for periodic sampling of silage, haylage, and rough feed (hay and straw) from storing bunkers, pits, trenches, and other storages we use samplers that allow to do it quickly and to a good quality.
Sampling is done when the collector and working element rotate by inserting them into the material, cutting out, collecting a sample and its extraction with the sampler at the end of the working cycle.

Forage particle separator for analysis of rough feed

3-, 4-, and 6-sieve forage particle separator is used to control the cutting length and the number of different fractions in the forage mixture.
The separator allows you to quickly and qualitatively divide rough feed in fractions, followed by determination of the percentage of each fraction in the forage mixture.
This makes it possible to compare the results obtained with standard indicators and draw conclusions about the quality of the forage mixture on farms.

Measuring of forage mixture on the manger at the beginning and at the end of the week allows:

  • To identify in proper time nonconformance in the preparation of the mixtures and to minimize the negative effect;
  • To discover nonuniformity of mixing of ingredients or forage mixture overgrinding;
  • To compare the quality of preparation of forage mixture by feed mixers of different manufacturers;
  • When separating maize silage to exactly determine the correctness of cutting the mix based on the presence of various fractions of feed particles;
  • To control the risk of rumen acidosis and falling of milk fatness in a timely manner.

Artificial rumen (Device for analysis of layering of feed in rumen)

The forage mixture on the manger should be periodically examined for suitability for feeding and layering in the rumen of cattle.
We use the artificial rumen for that. Visualization of the forage mixture in it allows to assess its quality and behavior in the rumen of cattle.

Device for control of granulometric composition of concentrated feed

Analysis of the granulometric composition of concentrated feed allows to compare the data obtained with standard indicators and draw conclusions about their digestibility, tendency to cause acidosis and influence the intestinal wall.

Device for analysis of Neutral Detergent Fiber and Acid Detergent Fiber (NDF and ADF)

Beside such important parameters as protein and fat content it has recently become of vital importance to analyse the fibre. The effectiveness of roughage, forage mixtures, their nutritional value are to a large extent related to accurate rationing of starch content, neutral detergent and acid detergent substances, which account for 60 to 80% of all the energy obtained with the feed. It is necessary to know the precise content of NDF and ADF in the feed for determining harvest maturity of grasses, diet formulation, and analysis of new forage.

NIR spectrometer for analysis of feed in real time

We use NIR spectrometer for the laboratory analysis of feed. With the help of this device it is possible to get in real time the following nutritional value parameters: moisture, content of protein, fat, lipids (waxes), ash, NDF, ADF, lignin, hemicellulose, cellulose, ammonical nitrogen pH, acetic, propionic and oleic acids in the feed with different physical state without prior sample preparation. The benefit of the spectrometer is the ability to determine all parameters simultaneously.
The analysis made by NIRS is comparable to and sometimes exceeds the accuracy of the chemical method of analysis. At the same time it is of shorter duration and less labour-intensive.

Accurate analysis of feed across all parameters plays an important role in:

  • diet formulation;
  • analysis of new feed;
  • in case of problems with health and digestion;
  • roughage conservation for setting the period of crops harvesting;
  • analysis of the reasons hampering the productivity of animals;
  • determining of what kind of feed should be fed to animals of different physiological groups.
