IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM OF COW ACTIVITY
Offered system of identification of activity traces the animals 24 h, 7 days per week, 365 days per year rendering possible conception in due period. The precision of identification of cows in “rut” is 98%.
Due identification of rut in cows is one of the main conditions determining dairy farm profit. More heads visually identified in hunt become more complicated.
The studies reveal 40% of all ruts start from 6 a.m., and 35% after 8 p.m. It means 75% rut increase when the herd is not under control.
New system of identification of activity traces the animals 24 h, 7 days per week, 365 days per year rendering possible conception in due period.
The precision of identification of cows in “rut” is 98%.
Principle of operation
Measurement of cows’ activity is performed on technologies like in satellite monitoring) no satellite communication is required).
Activity sensor is mounted on animal neck and registers its specific activities. It tracks animal movement acceleration and vertical and horizontal movements. Further, it monitors head movements that increase the precision of rut in cows with hidden and short rut period.
Memory capacity of activity sensor provides discontinuous monitoring of the activity, saving data for 48 h and wireless transmission of data to host receiving station.
Host stations may be located in barn, in milking parlor and in both. They operate independently or jointly.
If host stations are in the barn they periodically read the activity parameters from activity sensors. Range of each station is ¬¬– 100 m. If the receiving station is in milking parlor, monitoring is performed from the sensor when the animal comes to milking.
The stations transmit the data received to software and compare the activity of a certain animal to its normal live parameters and to those of the rest of herd.
Even if the farm has no UNIBOX milking parlor, independent host station may be installed with separate software and positively manage the reproduction using all the advantages of our system of activity identification.
Software
If UNIBOX milking parlor is installed, software determines the activity with software Herd Management. If the parlor has acoustic notification, operator is informed when the cow in rut enters the parlor. The signal is repeated at connecting milking unit.
If data transfer is in mobile, software via SMS notifies farm personnel about cows transferred in rut with their ID.
Software controls also selection gate to divide automatically the cows for their further insemination.
All data on cow activity are displayed for further examination, analysis and observation in software Herd Management. The data obtained can be grouped, sorted and filtered for individual reports. At program loading you see the report on general data, and in table individual parameters of each animal.
Graph of hour activity presents the data on rut time beginning to determine optimal period for artificial insemination.
Software is easily installed. It is user friendly having intuitive interface.
Advantages of activity identification system:
• Data transfer at any time of a day suitable for the operator independent of milking schedule;
• Precise registration either high or low activity of cows in various conditions of maintenance;
• Discontinuous measurement in actual time;
• Software operates 14(!) algorithms to optimize precise identification of cow activity level based on real factors;
• Unlike conventional systems, it assures more reliable data communication in high frequency range;
• Collar with chip is removed form in-calf cow and fixed on non in-calf cow, both under control that reduces equipment costs;
• Activity sensor has two piles on the animal neck, it shall be maintained clear to extend its durability and measurement precision;
• High precision system (by 95%) tracks rut in pastured cows with higher variation of the activity against cows in stalls that is practically impossible in other automatic systems.
